"Attachment Parenting:  Instinctive Care for Your Baby and Young Child." As
a writer  specializing in parenting and health topics, Katie Allison
Granju's work has appeared in Salon, Underwire, Seattle's Child,  The
Chicago Tribune, HipMama, Minnesota Parent, Disney's  Family.Com and
WebBound, among many others. She is also a  contributing writer to Metro
Pulse, east Tennessee's alternative  newsweekly. She worked with families
and children in crisis and  also attended the University of Tennessee
College of Law for two  years before turning to full-time writing. Katie
makes her home  in Knoxville, TN. She is the mother of three children:
Henry,  Jane, and Elliot. Her second book, "Maybe One More: Raising Your
Larger Family in a Small-Family World" will be released by Pocket  Books in

term, attachment parenting, was coined by pediatrician Dr.  William Sears,
and refers to a method of child-rearing that  focuses on intuitive care of
infants and children. In the  introduction to "Attachment Parenting:
Instinctive Care for Your  Baby and Young Child," Dr. William Sears
describes the features  of attachment parenting as "the baby b's": birth
bonding,  breastfeeding, bedsharing (sleeping with your baby), babywearing
(carrying your baby in a sling), and belief in the signal value  of an
infant's cry.   During this chat, Katie Allison Granju will be discussing
"the  baby b's" and how consistent parental responsiveness to a baby's
needs will lead to happy and emotionally well-balanced children.
