I wonder if the interpretation of this has got mixed up in the
telling. I suspect it might have been something like this:
The baby is reacting to allergens in the mother's milk (from her
diet) that the father was also sensitive to. ie That the baby had
inherited the allergic tendency of his father.

This is quite feasible, but merely means that the father's
allergies/intolerances need to be looked at as well as the mother's,
and the mother may need to avoid these foods, in order for the baby
to tolerate the milk well.
