Netters,
according to susan weed black cohosh is safe for labor induction, but is
contra indicated for those with high blood pressure. It is fairly safe from
the german commission E. it is used for menopausal systems - hot flashes- .
Need to use caution in that it can raise the bllod pressure in large doses.

From my new Herbal PDR ,out as of dec, 1998 quoting parts of the entry

habitat is Us canida, cultivated in europe.
the medicinal part of plant is the dried rhizome with the attached roots.

Action/ pharmacology
Triterpene glycoside: including actein, 27deoxyactein
Phenlpropane derivatives including isoferulic acid. " the estrogen-like
effect can no longer be upheld any longer due to more recent results of
research. In vitro and in vivop investigations demonstrate that compounds of
the rootstock of cimicifuga racemosa couple to the estrogen receptor,
however, these results must be interpreted as a blockade of the receptor. "

usage is menopausal ailments.

Precautions
"No health hazards or side effects have been known in conjuction with the
proper administration of the designated therapuetic dosages. An intake of
very high dosages of the drug (5g) or an extract (12g) leads ot vomiting,
headache, dizziness, limb pains and lowered blood pressure.
common adverse side effects include gastric discomfort.,

daily dosae Alcohol aquesous extracts 40%-60%... corresponding to 40mg
drug.
there here is included a long literature list. the new Herb Research
Foundation newsletter has a nice piece on black cohosh that is documented.

Have heard that it does help with poor let- down.
