Having traveled in the "third world," and the "developed world" (I really
hate such descriptives), I have to vote on the side of mothers and babies
together without the myriad devices that tend to separate moms and babies
where we can afford such stuff.

Like some of the rest of you, I spend at least as much time talking people
out of pumps and other paraphernalia as I do helping mothers use them.  Too
often, people assume that in order to breastfeed, they must have [fill in
the blanks].

Roberta, go easy about brining/introdcuing new devices to professionals in
your area. Cup-feeding is a great laternative and probably serves you and
others as well as most of the rest of things that are out there--also a
heck of a lot easier to clean.

When not needed, devices just get in the way.  (See March 1993 issue of JHL
for really nifty way to use syringes already in the hospital.
