Dear Lactnetters,

Almost every mom who I counsel who is experiencing either nipple pain in
the first few pp weeks or has a baby that refuses to latch on, experiences
*drastic improvements* with even just one try with asymmetrical latch on.
I have never had a mom tell me that she had heard of that technique
before, and most say that they were instructed by the maternity nurses to
achieve a proper latch with the classic cradle hold and shoving the baby
onto the breast with the goal of getting MOST of the areola into his/her
mouth. Many moms think that to latch on a baby correctly, they should not
be able to see much if any of the top of the areola.

I would like to know what you generally tell moms is the most effective
technique, and if you are noticing this trend as well.

Thanks for any feedback,

Megan
