Hello, All:
Please offer your kind suggestions for the following situation:
Mom is a school teacher, returning to work (5 days a week, four hours a
day), later this month. Baby is 8 months, nurses just 5-6 times /day, eats
solids welland happily. Mom has a decent quality pump that worked well
before for her when she returned to work full time (before summer vacation).
She would like to leave a bottle of EBM for baby to drink before her
nap,(since this babe usually nurses to sleep) but has had very poor results
when trying to pump. She has considered leaving a bottle of formula, but
then read the ingredients, and reconsidered. She's thought about a bottle
of water, but feels baby would be comforted by something more milk-like.
My suggestions to her were : 1.Work a bit more at pumping, see if your
yields don't improve. 2.Why not a bottle of water? 3. Consider that baby
may be perfectly content in her absence to skip the bottle and just wait til
mom's return to nurse. 4. Consider boosting your milk supply with fenugreek,
if you feel the bottle is essential, and water won't fill the bill.
Any other ideas? TIA from Martha Johnson RN IBCLC in Hot-as -Hades
