Lactnet is *NOT* the place for feminist/feminism bashing -- please. There
are as many definitions of what it means to be a feminist as there are
feminists. Some focus on equal pay for equal work, others on respecting
nature, others on the value of women's reproductive labor. But at its most
basic, being a feminist means wanting to be respected as a human being. Any
US woman who has gone to college *is* a feminist. Any US woman who has
worked outside the home for pay *is* a feminist.

For brilliant writing on breastfeeding as a feminist issue, read the work of
Canadian anthropologist Penny Van Esterik. It is simply not true that
"feminists" do not value the work of women in the home, and as mothers.
