My Rotary presentation went wonderfully, and they asked lots of questions - that was a good sign! Brattleboro is the home of the Holstein-Frisian Association (those are dairy cows - big producers, the black-and-white cows that most of us think of as what a cow looks like), and one of the retired execs came up after the talk and asked me if I knew that there was a cow in Europe that had given human milk, about ten years ago. Now, I didn't look it up in the archives, but thanks to Valerie I was able to say something that sounded intelligible (don't ask me now what it was), since I am quite aware of all the genetic messing around being done in this field. The last question started with "Now this may sound sexist..." and of course it was -- but I was able to discuss some of Kathy Dettwyler's stuff about breastfeeding and anthropology, and ended with something like "scientific but in such attractive containers". Our hospital development director (who gave me a ride) told me I had fielded that question "gracious"ly and complimented me for being nice and humorous to a guy who is always a little off.

Thanks to Cee, who reminded me that I knew a LOT more about breastfeeding than any of the people there - that helped! So did the power point presentation and my new J Jill blazer!
