Okay, folks. I have a Masters level nursing student with me, anxious to do a
project re: brfdg support. We are going to look at postpartum
barriers/supports via a survey of providers. HOwever, One of the questions
that came up is this:

Who does the breastfeeding woman go to for help--her OB or her babys Pedi? Or
the hospital nursery? ie who should we be interviewing?

We thought it would be more manageable to interview providers (we are thinking
it will probably be Pedis here) rather than postp women becuase of numbers, so
that is where we are starting. And we didn't include LCs at this point as we
are *assuming* most women do not see LCs as the first line of defense. BUt
maybe we are off here. So I'll ask you--

How many women do you see that are self-referred vs. MD or hospital referred?
Are these MDs mostly Peds? Other?

We are thinking that a short survey may open some doors to much need ed
education and referrals...and we are focusing for starters on access for low
income moms, since they are more at risk and to limit the survey. And we do
have LCs at WIC but women do not get to WIC in that first critical week
either, so we are looking elsewhere.
