My knowledge of and interest in NICU's comes from
a different angle. My professional training is in
social work and social policy, working especially in
maternal and child health.
Personally, two of my four children have spent time
in NICUs at birth, one for three weeks in Israel
and one for 10 days in Boston. I won't go into
the details here, but because of my personal
experience and professional interests, I have been
thinking for some time about a research project,
an ethnographic study of NICU culture, who is
a part of that culture, what does it look like,
how do the members of the culture experience it.
Broad reforms, policy changes require a basic understanding
of what exists already.
Does anyone know of such research that has been done?
I haven't found it.
Is anyone else on Lactnet interested in such a project?
Or does anyone know anyone who is?
 Thanks,
  Naomi Bar-Yam
