Dear Friends,

I have permission to share the following situation that a mom from our phone
hotline presented to me the other day. This mother has two children her
youngest is 15 months old nursing three times a day down from four to five
times a day just a week or so ago. Her muenstral periods returned when baby
was nearly a year--the first two cycles were relatively normal though she
had what shc calls a clear copious discharge about midcycle and one day
during her bleeding days (mostly tinged with blood) This past cycle when
she called she was day three(into her cycle) she is experiencing a period
without blood! only this clear gel like stuff that comes out like a period
tapering the same way with all the pre muenstral symptoms when she called
her gp(most women see gp drs. as opposed to gyn here in calgary unless there
is a serious problem) the doc thought it was connected to her
breastfeeding--and suggested she call us and that if the discharge increased
and did not go away to call her again to be seen. I read through the BFAB
about effect of breastfeeding on meunstruation--and of course found nothing
about this kind of *period* I spoke to my PL who thought this was a medical
problem and that she should consult with her dr. asap--I also told the mom
during our first phone contact that she might want to consider getting a
second opinion from a gyn--I offered to post to you all to see if anyone has
heard of such a thing and whether there may be some connection to
breastfeeding--mom did have one short period of time when baby was teething
when she increased her nursings this incidence of copious gel like period
discharge happened not long after that--If anyone has ever heard of this
even if not connected to the mom nursing her toddler I would be most
appreciative to hear what you have learned
