In the United States, I think Pediatricians and Neonatologists should really be using the new protocol developed by the AAP in 2011. I'm mystified why so many still do not. They really researched this issue very well and found that it is normal for infant's blood glucose to drop very low as they transition to extrauterine life. If they are asymptomatic and over 25 we are supposed to just let them breastfeed. This protocol applies to all babies 34 weeks and older.
