Dr. Hale or whoever else: I have a mom with a one week old baby who takes the
following anti-convulsants. She appears to be on maximum dosages, but
according to Hale's book, she should still be able to breastfeed her baby.
The ped has recommended supplementing with formula after every feeding "since
the dosages are so high, and to be on the safe side". Mom has been
struggling with latch-on (it's her third baby, but it has been a long time!),
and I hate to see this pushed on her unnecessarily and slow down the
breastfeeding progress. I will be sending my info to the doctor in the MD
report, but would love a "second ruling" on this in the meantime.

Valproic Acid- 1000mg per day
Caarbamazepine- 800mg per day

Baby normal size, weight, gestation; healthy.
