In our hospital we wait a minimum of 4 hours before we bathe babies, and we use immersion baths. Because our unit is very busy it usually is well over 4 hours before they have a bath. Our tubs are metal and are only used once-I'm not sure if there are sterilized or just cleaned in-between. I like to spread a receiving blanket over the top of the tub and then lower baby and blanket into the water. The blanket somewhat 'engulfs' baby and they find it calming. Overall I think it is a nice experience.
