Hi all,

First, I'd like to thank all those on Lactnet who shared information in the
recent thread on vitamin K and any association to childhood cancer. This same
question was asked yesterday on TLC by a LLL Leader. Not only was I able to
use the info on the studies as a basis for a Medline search, but I drew from
your wisdom about intracranial hemorrhage to share with this LLLL. She does
have some questions that I am unable to answer with the resources that I have
on hand. What are the sources for the vitamin K in the injectable form and in
the oral form? Is the injectable form of vitamin K synthetic? Also -and this
is for my curiosity- what are the differences in vitamin K1, K2 and K3? Is it
in the number of isoprenoids units in the side chain? How do they differ in
their biochemical action? My biochemistry text doesn't answer these questions.

You may e-mail me privately since this is getting far afield from lactation.
TIA,
Carol Kelley, LLLL
