Hi All,

I had a student ask me what the four stages of engorgement are. As a RN,
I know the four levels of edema, is this the same? Also has there
recently been an updated published care plan for treating engorgement?

At our hosp. we have a IBCLC staff nurse who won't assist new moms in
lying to breastfeed. She tells them it is unsafe in that it will cause
the baby to have an ear inf. Is there any published literature to the
contrary that I could share with her?

Thanks, Dawn BSN, IBCLC
