At the hospital where I work babies are not admitted, but are allowed to 
stay with their mothers as long as there is another adult who will stay 
with and be responsible for the baby.  Also, there needs to be a private 
room available for the mother (not usually a problem).  I'm not sure if 
there is a specific written policy that addresses this or whether it is 
just understood.  If you want me to look for an official policy, let me 
know.
