Yes, about the SNS. And unfortunately, yes, this mom has PLENTY of milk.
Her baby- who was a LBW, at 5 pounds, now only weight about 13 lbs 6 oz.
So pedi said baby was not gaining on breastmilk anymore (note baby doubled
birth weight exclusive breastfeeding within 4 months......) and decided
that if baby hadn't gained a certain amount (7 ounces) by a certain day (7
days later) that baby was to be hospitalized for malabsorption testing.....

Baby didn't gain the 7 ounces... (gee... 7 months old....) and mom asked a
second pedi, who weighed baby on different scale and said baby had *lost*
weight. SO that pedi concurred and baby was hospitalized, put on strict
formula for two days- gained several ounces.

Mom was sent home- baby's stool sent away for tests for malabsorption
(thanks to whoever posted the sugar in stools reference!!) and mom was
told her milk was not 'good enough' by itself. She must use 1/2 and 1/2,
then if baby still gains she can 'try' to use expressed milk in a set
amount at the breast in the SNS, then gradually decrease that amount....

I disagree with the doctors but.... what can ya do? Mom is happy with the
process so far... :/
