Update on the "yes, but" mom- today she called not knowing whether she
is going to bother using the pump she rented yesterday or not, because
her blood test for magnesium (from mag sulfate taken intrapartum, 2
months ago; with the blood sample taken 2 weeks ago) came back "high".
Yes, I know mag sulfate is "compatible with bf" according to the AAP,
but mom's cardiologist does not. She did not seem to want to hear the
information I was telling her about the small transmission of Mg into
milk... in fact, she never seems to be listening at all, but jumps in
with her but before my statement is even out. I tried to defuse the
game by asking her to be honest with herself if she does not want to
breastfeed, and stop looking for excuses. She said she would make up
her mind when she speaks to the pediatrician. How much magnesium is
this child going to get in the drops of milk this mother is producing
after 7.5 weeks of no milk removal...puh-lease!
