Hi Evi,
Funny you should mention this article. I work in a hospital as well as private
practice, and I can tell you countless times how well lying down
works....Whenever I come across a couplet who is not feeding well and
everyone is getting nervous and bottles are threatened, I get mom's to the
sidelying position and 99% of the time the babies latch nicely. If mom has had
a c/s this can get tricky but we get creative with positions.. I always have
the babies naked except for a diaper, and moms naked from waist up and the
babies just love the feel of all that skin against their bodies. I tuck a blanket
under baby's back and around moms torso. Moms love this too, as they are
usually wiped out from lack of sleep. This is my secret weapon i keep up my
sleeve when we have a baby not going to breast....Or being pushed to breast
before ready by some of the well meaning RN's. Works great for baby's with
breast aversion...Even though well intentioned, sometimes the nurses get
nervous if baby is not feeding on some sort of schedule by 24 hours.. This also
keeps baby's temp up. I know the staff worry that the baby will get cold.
They never do. Even well meaning staff will put a cold bb under the warmer in
the nursery. I ask them, just let me put baby skin to skin for 20min and you
can see for yourself how well this works. They did.. Temp was 98.9 ax.

Just my observation.

Robin
