When there are reoccurent plugged ducts, I think of the following:
-is mother nursing often enough, including during the night. I have found
from personal experience, that when my baies were 12 weeks old, I could
not go longer then 2 hours without nursing ( on the rare occassion that
my baby would go that long)or I would be in pain from feeling so full.
-Changing baby's nursing position at each feeding
-let baby nurse at both breasts(preferably switching every 10 - 12
minutes) at each feeding for as long as they want
-Mother's bra can be causing the problem. whether it is underwire or not,
it could be touching the breast on an area to cause the duct to clog.
Yes, even nursing bras.
-Mother's sleeping position could cause this. Sleeping on her stomach can
cause clogged ducts
-Using a back pack-this compresses area under the arm which is actually
breast tissue, and this can be a cause. Actually anything binding in the
breast and armpit area can be the culprit. Carrying a heavy diaper bag
can do this.
-And the obvious- Is mother getting enough sleep/rest, eating and
drinking properly, not run down?
