Liver problems with depakote are a rare adverse effect.  More common is
weight gain, and even Polycystic ovary syndrome in adolescent girls
given this drug (perhaps because of the weight gain, but perhaps not, as
it also can cause infertility in men).  It is an effective
anticonvulsant, and a new mother probably needs seizure control more
than ever in her life.
