Jacci,

Personal experience here of nursing 2 sets of sibs-I let the baby have
access to both breasts 24/7 and the older sib(s) are restricted to one side,
switching as needed. That has worked well for me! It is always interesting
to see how the dynamics work themselves out between the kids-sometimes the
older sib nurses more than the newborn, then it'll switch, then somebody is
teething or having nightmares or....

As for reduction in sibling jealousy-yes, I believe it works wonders. I
have never had a bit of jealousy between my 3 kids. The love they show
their new baby is precious and not to be missed. I really think it helps the
older sibs get used to the new baby and not feel as though they are getting
kicked out.

Subject: bfing multiple diff aged sibs!

this issue is increasingly on my mind lately and info is scarce: what is the
best way to nurse 3 sibs of all diff ages? instincts are telling me so far
that the infant should be assigned its own breast and of course be allowed
unrestricted 24 hr access while the older 2 be eased into taking turns on
the other
breast. when and if lopsidedness develops, switch the breasts assigned to
each. i also am thinking (intuiting?) that this will help the older sibs
bond with
the new baby more efficiently as opposed to letting the baby have both
breasts 1st, then offering them to the older sibs so they can continue to
nurse side
by side like always. any thoughts/experience/insights on this issue would be
greatly appreciatd! the main reason i am sharing my current musings is that
in
doing my research i did come across a wonderful article (from mothering, of
course!) that i saved and wish i had more cause to share w/ the moms i work
with! here's to hoping some of my fellow lactnetters have need of this info
for
your moms!
