Nicki writes,

<< I followed 20 exclusively breastfeeding women from the day of the baby's
birth up to day 8 with a daily telephone call to ask about breastfeeding and
about infant stooling. I also looked to see if there was any relationship
between stooling frequency and weight gain. There wasn't. There was no
pattern
that emerged except that all babies had stooled by the 2nd day postpartum.
All
 babies thrived. >>

This is fascinating. But, (you knew there had to be one, right?) did all
babies stool at least once a day? twice a day? three times a day? four?
While you might have some babies that stool 4 times a day, and some that stool
8, and they all gain weight -- you said all of your babies thrived. Were
there any of your 20 infants that stooled less than 3 times a day from, say,
day 4 onward? while I'm not thinking that the kid that stools 8 times a day
is going to gain faster than the kid that stools 3 times a day, I am
interested in seeing if there was a limit below which they didn't go.

Just to confound all my previous posts, today I saw a baby that is 2 1/2 weeks
old, is stooling every two days, and has gained a pound above birth weight.
This is the kiddo on the left side of the bell curve....

Jan -- who supposes she is making up for my stooling non-gainers.
