NIH-Funded Breastfeeding Study
Lactation Consultant Position
Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Bronx, NY)

This is a 5 year NIH funded clinical trial of prenatal care-based interventions to increase breastfeeding in low-income multiethnic women. An IBCLC  will arrange pre-natal one-on-one meetings, daily hospital, and home visits with women in the IBCLC study groups (up to 3 months post-partum).  The IBCLC  will be based at a Montefiore health center and provide additional support on the labor and delivery ward of Weiler Hospital as well as through home visits and phone calls. Research assistant led phone post-partum interviews will collect infant feeding, and health visit data. 

Project staff will gain valuable experience working with a multidisciplinary team with expertise in: breastfeeding, behavioral interventions, biostatistics, epidemiology, health education, information technology, maternal-fetal medicine, and nursing. 

Responsibilities:
â ¢	Conduct one-on-one prenatal meetings with study participants at a Montefiore health center
â ¢	Conduct daily rounds at Weiler hospital to provide immediate postpartum support
â ¢	Make prenatal visits study participantsâ   homes (taxi fare provided)
â ¢	Provide weekly phone support to participants for the first three months postpartum
â ¢	Maintain comprehensive records of LC activities and attend weekly project meetings

Requirements:
â ¢	International Board of Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) required
â ¢	English/Spanish speaking competence required
â ¢	BSN or RN highly preferable
â ¢	Availability and willingness to work some evenings/weekends as required
â ¢	Willingness to conduct home visits 
â ¢	Very strong organizational and time management skills
â ¢	Able to take initiative, respect strict research procedures, and follow through with tasks
â ¢	Experience/comfort working with ethnically diverse, low-income populations

Availability and Compensation:
â ¢	Begins â   20 hours/week  December 1, 2007, phasing in to 30 hours/week in 3-6 months 
â ¢	Position is for 3 years
â ¢	Position comes with health and other benefits, 
â ¢	Full time annual salary based upon $48K-$70K, depending upon credentials and experience.
