i didn't know all the particulars of doing the test. at our hospital, a lady
comes in each day, usually around 9 or 10 am, and brings all the babies
back to the nsy for the test. it sounds much better to train the nurses to
do it, so they can do it anytime the baby is asleep.
staff seem very very reluctant to change the status quo. it is very hard for
a lone LC to get the status quo changed.
the babies here are returned to the nsy for vital signs checks and physical
assessment. why not do this in the mother's room and save much time and
footsteps since the babies then have to be returned to the mom's room
afterwards. this is the $64 question, but the answer is this is the way we
do it.
also risk of mixing some babies up, esp.if there are 2 baby smith's e.g.
