There was a session at ILCA where ILCA and IBLCE went head to head to discuss the new credential. However, only the ILCA rep and the IBCLCs did the discussing. The IBLCE rep gave her statement. My feeling was, she (and the Board) were just going to outwait the reactions because the new, lower credential was a Done Deal. I wasn't alone in my impressions.

Now comes the new SofP, being written and edited in the Board's offices even as this discussion was being held at the ILCA conference, quietly inserted into exam results packets and into the Board's web site. No explanation. No advance notice of a major, career-shaking, professional practice change coming; this is what it is; this is why we think it's a good thing. It is poorly worded, but the "out" I see is "...another certification or license...".

So the light bulb clicked on: this new credential is not only designed to expand opportunities for new entrants into the field of Lactation, thereby expanding the profession. It is also to be the default credential for those of us without "...another certification or license..."

We are to be demoted if we don't have "...another certification or license..."

Please, please tell me I am blowing hot air.

Phyllis
