I guess I'm going against the grain of responses so far, but I'd be worried
about a 5 week old that had gained only 1 oz (28 g)/week for the last two
weeks, especially since the gain appeared within normal for the first 3
weeks. At this age the DARLING studies indicate that breastfed and
formula-fed infants gain at similar rates--and that is more than 1 oz (28
g)/week. I also disagree that 2 weeks is a short time for an infant at this
stage. I bet this child is quickly dropping into the "failure to thrive"
percentiles on the growth charts.

How are the baby's pees and poops? My bet is that wet diapers are there
(hydration with weight maintenance) but poops/day have decreased.

I wonder what changed at 2 1/2-3 1/2 weeks? My guess is that something
different occurred related to breastfeeding management, or there is/was an
underlying health issue that has nothing to do with breastfeeding but its
effects manifested at that point in time. I'd suggest checking Lawrence &
Lawrence, Riordan & Auerbach, etc. for in-depth assessment info and possible
interventions. The one thing I wouldn't do is wait much longer to see what
happens.

Karen
