Linda, that's what I have always believed.  You could check it out by
observing bottle fed babies of smokers.  They are miserable too.

If the nursing mothers are still smoking during postpartum, theoretically
their babies should be a little better because they are getting some
nicotine
exposure via the milk--although I doubt that much quantity gets to the baby
until more copious milk is available...day 3 or 4, and p.o. nicotine may not
have the same effect as the IV nicotine they got in utero.
