Dear Everyone:
This is in response to Laurie's query about probiotics. Probiotics are
supplements that one can buy in an whole foods or organic grocery store or a
healthfood store. They contain various amounts and combinations of gut flora
such as lactobacillus acidophilus, bifidum, bulgaris and others. They are said
to restore the normal balance in the gut.
A benefit for me is that if I eat something that I am intolerant to (some
wheat or some corn) and I take 1 capsule of probiotic TID with some digestive
enzymes , I don't get my usual skin rot reaction a week later. This is a
miracle to me, and something I learned from taking super blue-green algae.
At first, I resisted the super blue-green algae supplements as its marketing
strategy reminded me of Tupperware and there were such extravagant claims made
for it by non-healthcare people spouting jargon that it seemed like quackery.
But my husband succumbed to the pressure from a friend and started to take it.
Didn't notice anything.....until allergy season. Whereas the spring and summer
before he had to take Seldane almost daily, after he started the SBGA, he only
took one dose the whole spring and summer. I was impressed. This was not a
result that we were expecting or even thinking could be a possibility. So I
started taking it. It has had a similar effect on me during the spring when
lots of things are blooming.
This led me to the probiotics and enzymes, as the company marketing SBGA
the most also recommends the probiotics and enzymes as part of a whole
package. It is wonderful to eat some corn and not have the skin fall off my
hands and feet a week later. So I take these supplements.
   I don't see any contraindication for a breastfeeding mother or her baby;
may even be helpful if yeast is a problem as there is more in the gut than
only l. acidophilus. I get most of the stuff in local stores, because buying
from the big company is expensive. Wal-Mart even carries the SBGA. I think
that everyone has to figure out what works best for their body, and these type
of supplements work for me. I would encourage people to try and see what
happens for them. Warmly, Nikki
