I think a thorough investigation is in order, perhaps by a peds
gastroenterogist (liver) or peds hematologist who could work up blood
disorders, like anemias, or metabolic problems.
One would want to know what fraction of the bilirubin is elevated, direct or
indirect. It very well could be a rare anemia or inborn error of metabolism.
If it is true that the infant lost a shocking amount of weight when put on 2
wks of formula, that seems a very abnormal response. Why was bf interrupted
for 2 whole wks anyway (why at all?)?
