The articles are in the current issue of JAMA, 290(13) pp.1771 (editorial),
1st article 1713-1720 & 2nd article 1721-1728. I'm still trying to make
heads or tails of the gobbly-gook. The children studied were susceptible to
developing type 1 diabetes based on family hx and if they had
HLA-DR3/DR4-DQ8 genotype. "Exposure to dietary gluten before the age of 3
months showed a five-fold higher risk for the development of islet
autoantibodies than after age 3 months." Somewhere it says that "reduced
total or exclusive breastfeeding duration did not significantly increase the
risk of developing islet autoantibodies." and another part of article 1
says that the introducing of cereal is increased the risk before 3 mo and
after 7 mo, that there may be a window for introduction of gluten
containing foods. Article 2 says introducing gluten foods after 6 mo did
not have increased risks for islet or celiac disease autoantibodies.

So, yes, go ahead and say it...we should give cereal later (just like LLLI
has said for Years!)
(just don't say I told you so...that's gloating :-) Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
