Today I received a late Christmas Card from our Ministry of Health, which I
thought you might enjoy hearing about. On the front "Season's Greetings",
then a picture of a mother breastfeeding a chubby baby, and "Good health
begins with exclusive breastfeeding" (and a little Min of Health crest)
Inside on the left: "I exclusively breastfed my baby from birth up to six
months. Breastmilk on its own provided adequate nutrients and fluids for my
baby. It worked and I have proved it. From six months I started giving
other foods and fluids frequently, in addition to breastmilk." then
(signature) Dr Felicity Zawaira, A Baby Friendly Health Worker" (actually,
at one time she was the Director of Maternal-Child Health!). Then on the
right: "Wishing you success in the New Year, as we continue to promote and
support appropriate infant feeding practices." (then in small print) "Note:
HIV positive mothers can get personal advice at their nearest health centre
or from their family doctor." At the bottom: "National Nutrition Unit,
Ministry of Health and Child Welfare 1997".

Nice, huh?
