Lynda:  This baby sounds hypertonic and hypersensitive.  What positions
are being used?  In hypertonic babies, they will often arch if their heads
are touched OR their feet hit the back of the chair (in football hold).  If
letdown is "exuberant," then he could be reacting to this.  Try working
against gravity by sitting him up straddling on mom's leg or if head
control is good, on her tummy while she's lying down.  What happens if you
swaddle this baby tightly?  I'm not normally a fan of this, but in
hypersensitive babies, this sometimes works.  On the other hand, stripping
off all clothing might work or bf in the bath.  Has mom tried bf him in a
sling or baby bundler while walking?  It could be that the one bottle was
enough to "do him in" and he's playing that "hold out for the bottle game."
Is family using pacifiers or their fingers for sucking purposes?  This
would make matters worse.  Does mom or baby have ANY risk factors for yeast
(antibiotics for c-sect, tubal ligation, b-strep; steriod use in preg for
prem labor or asthma, etc)?  If all this fails to shed any light on this,
perhaps trying something along the lines of homeopathic calming treatments
(email me if you need specifics).
