We have a policy that moms cannot sleep in bed with their babies. We had a
baby die in a C-Section moms arms. She was left alone to breastfeed a few
hours after her surgery. She was a large woman, drugged from surgical meds, the
family left her. The nurse did not know she was alone in the room and when she
went in to check on the baby the baby was totally blue and they were
unsuccessful at resuscitation attempts. Now the key words here are the Mom was left
ALONE after surgery. But you can't convince anyone that was the biggest issue.
The biggest issue in our hospital/Director's eyes was the fact the baby was
in bed with Mom nursing. When my friend delivered there Dad was with her
constantly and the nurses just left her alone and acted naive.
