> Hi,

> Permission to post from mom. We saw a mom-to-be in clinic recently. She is due her second baby mid-December. Her first child is 21 months and she started out breastfeeding but only for three days as he vomited up his feeds. She also says she had bleeding nipples.
>
> Healthcare professionals were concerned that he was vomiting up every feed. Some appeared yellow and doctors thought he was throwing up bile. Doctors suspected allergy to something that she was eating. He was put on formula (dairy-based) at day 3-4 and wasn't sick, they stayed on formula and he wasn't sick again.

> Her nephew also had a similar history. No other family history of allergies. Mom on no medications at time. She did eat a lot of cheese and tomato bases sauces during pregnancy (cravings) and her son did have a tomato allergy once on solids, which he has since grown out of (21 months old now), BUT fine on cows milk based formula. She describes the birth as straightforward and pretty easy, she did have pethidine though.

> She was unsure whether her bleeding nipples started before or after his vomiting after every feed. We did wonder if the blood was making him ill.
>
> She really wants to breastfeed her second child and hopes she doesn't experience the same issues again. Can anyone shed some light on what may have been going on with her son?
