I'd add one thing to Chanita's wonderful post: that before mom "lose the
bottle" she try using it to lure baby to breast, preferably w/
knowledgeable help at her side to make sure the positioning's good. If she
bares self and baby to waist, bottle-feeds near her breast, and after a few
strong sucks quickly takes the bottle away and quickly offers breast, she
may find the baby - mid-suck and *eager* - latches on and nurses as if
he's always done so. It usually takes a few back-and-forths: a few sucks,
offer breast, a few sucks, offer breast, with the baby doing better at the
breast each time it's offered, until he has a sustained suck. Certainly
worth a try!
