I like the idea of solar cookers and solar pasteurization.

Regrettably there are significant parts of the world that have 1 sunny
day a month in the winter or so it seems (and today is ours -- wish I
could see it from my desk!). I would note that most of the US, all of
Canada and all of Europe fall into the low potential area, being above
40' latitude or having "interesting" weather. However many of the UDC's
fall into the areas of higher potential for use.

It is important to reiterate that this is an issue for FORMULA feeding
mothers and babies. Water used to make formula fed to infants in the
first months is expected to meet a much higher standard than our normal
drinking water. A slightly different preparation standard applies for
formula that is pre-mixed and stored as opposed to formula mixed just
prior to use. And we can't forget that powdered formula can have a
bacterial content.

It's just all too complicated, which is one of the minor reasons we
believe in breastfeeding, right?

Judith, in Ontario, no sun for weeks sometimes...
