I was just in on the Gerber website to look at their manual breastpump. The
designer is a GP from Oslo who is also a mother, and why she has chosen a
big-time violator of the WHO code to market her invention is beyond me. If
anyone has any experience with this pump I would be interested to hear about
it, though preferably not on the list. I'll be happy to summarize whatever
feedback is sent to me, and post it to LN later. I noticed it can not be
boiled or sterilized in a microwave and I am wondering how that works in
practice.

I did notice during my brief visit to the website that Gerber offers the
services of a 'certified lactation educator' by toll-free phone line, around
the clock. Guess some people think it would be nice to have a credential
without those pesky ethical guidelines making it not OK to make your living
that way. It's a good example of misuse of an official-sounding title, as
far as I can see.

I've already written to IBLCE and let them know how I feel about offering a
credential to other health professionals for doing less than what I had to
do to get my IBCLC. I wouldn't want a credential that required less than
this - I would be happier to get a document showing I had taken whatever
courses I took, and to apply them to my CERP requirements as an allied
health professional, or toward eligibility to sit the IBLCE exam. Besides,
in my experience, most health professionals need MORE time to unlearn all
the nonsense we acquire and are taught along the way, not LESS.
