Got a call from a mom yesterday with problem I haven't run into
before.  Her 9 month old is beginning to bite at the breast.  We ran
over the usual management suggestions, but it turns out a more
pervasive complaint is that the baby presses his upper teeth into her
nipple throughout the feeding and is leaving indentations that are
getting progressively more tender.  (I know--what are his teeth doing
on her nipple?  Evidently if she really works at it, she can get this
guy to latch more to the areola, but he's evidently nursed
effectively for months in this position and isn't about to change).
Other than encouraging her little man to rotate his head a bit at the
breast with each feeding so he's not hitting the same sore spots over
and over, I was at a loss for suggestions to get him to stop.  Any
ideas, netters?
