I am fully in agreement that we are not in a position to prescribe
medications. I do have a question for those of you who work in developing
countries where prescription drugs are readily available and where the
health care system is VERY different than that in the US. What would you do
in the following situation? I saw a mom with thrush. The mom has already
been to the health clinic where no one picked up on the problem (despite
obvious plaques in baby's mouth). She can't afford to go to a ped. I work
with.
Sometimes it is hard for me to know how to hande the very different reality
of life here. Not all health care is equal, and my most important job is to
help mother and baby. I do have an American friend, recently arrived
pediatrician who is a missionary. He isn't liscensed to practice here yet,
though. Feel free to email me privately with your comments.
