One of my peer counselors is helping a mom with a problem and needs some
input as I'm out of ideas as well. If anyone can help please email me privately
at [log in to unmask]

Background:
Baby boy is 3mo, uneventful breastfeeding history until now. Mom is very
proud that she is breastfeeding as she formula fed (even adding cereal to the
bottle!) her others. Baby has been uncomfortable and not moving bowels
regularly for 2 weeks now. After 5 days she brought baby to MD who said
tummy not distended can offer 1oz water/prune juice mix. Offered the juice,
baby had bowel movement. It was firm but not hard and "orangey" colored.
Again baby went 5 days, seemed uncomfortable tried juice again and it worked
again but only for the one movement. Now baby is another 5days out and still
no movement even with the prune juice. It would not be a problem but mom
states the baby is not his self...uncomfortable, edgy and not nursing well (but
still at breast). She offers no formula or solids only breastfeeding. BW was 6-
13 and weighed 12-6 two weeks ago. No other meds for mom or baby except
moms prenatals, no other diet changes that mom can think of. She admits to
not eating a "good" diet. Lots of prepared frozen type foods and "junk" foods.
I've asked the peer to ask about milk intake (ie: ice cream in the last few
warmer weeks) although I'm not sure that would cause these bowel changes.
Jennifer Tow can you provide some insight, you seem particularly expert at
dealing with digestive issues. Thanks!
