Sarah, you are not at all far from the Perkins School in Watertown. Might be worth giving them a call.

In fact, Art Beyond Sight just did a joint research project with the Museum of Science, Boston Research and Evaluation Department. The white paper from that research is online: http://www.artbeyondsight.org/docs/fln%20formatted%20White%20Paper.pdf Most of their research does seem to continue to be in the art field, but my guess is that their collaboration with the Museum of Science team may have lead to science-specific findings.

There is significant work in this field being done by museum educators in New York City through the Access Peer Group of NYCMER (New York City Museum Educators Roundtable). You might reach out to them as well: http://www.nycmer.org/index.php?section=events&evtid=655

Hope that helps,

I recommend reviewing Art Education for the Blind's resource book Art Beyond Sight. There is a lot of research in there about blindness. It comes from the art and art museum perspective, but will likely have cross-over. Leah

Good Afternoon

My name is Sarah Yellin and I am graduate student at Harvard University working on my thesis. My thesis is on how people with blind and low vision learn in a science museum. Does anyone have any information on how visitors with blind and low vision learn? I am especially looking for information on auditory and visual learners, as well as tactile learners in a science museum setting. I am using Howard Gardner's theory on multiple intelligence a baseline.

Thanks,

Sarah Yellin
