GENTLY-USED EXHIBIT FOR SALE - Optical Illusion House & related components

From the outside, the optical illusion house looks like an ordinary house. Step inside and your perspective changes-literally! The sloped, checkerboard-patterned floor, angled ceiling and "crooked" windows combine to offer the visitor a strange, "shrinking" sensation, depending upon where in the house they are standing. The windows offer views of various illusions and puzzles, including renderings by geometry mastermind M.C. Escher (approval has been obtained for use of these images.) The house measures approx. 10' high x 11' wide x 9.5' deep.

Outside the house, find the animal shapes hidden in the treetops (two 8-foot wall-mount panels.) Accessories for outside the house include: picnic table with two more illusion activities, lamp post/sign (needs repair), park bench and a hinged "infinity" mirror (approx. 10' high x 4' deep x 8' wide when open.)

This exhibit was created and originally displayed in the Madison Children's Museum (Madison, WI). Digital photos can be e-mailed to seriously interested parties upon request.

Since we need to free up space, this exhibit is available for only $2,500 (you pay shipping or pick it up). First-come, first-serve ($1,000 deposit required to close sale, $1,000 prior to shipment, and $500 balance due within 30 days of receipt.)

Interested? Contact Anne Steuer or Leanne Poellinger at the Children's Museum of La Crosse, 207 5th Avenue South, La Crosse, WI 54601 (608) 784-2652 or [log in to unmask]

The pieces:

* two floor sections, approx. 4' x 9' x 1';

* four wall pieces, the largest of which is approx. 8' x 9.5'; a 3' x 4' entry ramp;

* 2 angled roof sections, each about 4' x 9' x 3' and two ends (approx. 9' x 3');

* seven"windows" (framed images/interactives) approx. 2.5' x 4' each;

* two tree panels (4' x 7' and 7' x 8')

* picnic table (3' x 4' x 2')

* light/sign post (approx. 7' high)

I don't know how old the exhibit is, but I would guess that it was built around 1997 or 1998. We purchased it in Dec. 2002. We repainted some of the surfaces at that time. It could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but otherwise is in good condition.
