Sari -
I just saw a great self-guided tour (paper handout) at the National Museum of Women in the Arts (http://www.nmwa.org). They provide all visitors with a very nice packet of cards calling out certain pieces in their collections, with text on interesting facts and/or aesthetic importance of the piece. There are also cards that give visitors suggested reflective questions (for adults and for children) to help them make the most of the museum experience. Not science-focused, but a great tool that could be easily replicated for a science museum setting.

Subject: Self-guided themed tours

I'm looking for museums that have self-guided themed tours of exhibits. These could be for adults, families or children.
I'm not interested in a supplemental audio guide of a specific exhibit, but a themed tour, either in one exhibit gallery or across multiple exhibit galleries. For example, a self-guided tour or program on a theme such as: habitats, adaptations or predator/prey. The tour/program "guide" might be audio based, a paper hand-out, or a backpack with instructions, tools and props.

I'd love to hear of any museums that have such a program or tour.

Thanks,
Sari Boren
