the Discovery Team did a nano (I think it is in the NISEnet repertoire ) activity several days ago with the fill from paper diapers which expands with the addition of water. web link to instructions: http://chemistry.about.com/od/chemistryhowtoguide/ht/fakesnow.htm

it is fun to build ice sculptures with ice cubes and salt. Wish we had thought about that this summer, especially when the air conditioning was out for a few days. the temperature got up to 90 and then some and we were still full of people.
