Dear Toni Dancu and fellow ASTC colleagues,

Regarding the discussion on immersive exhibits, I would like to draw
your attention to two resources presenting research on immersive
environments from the image perspective.

VIRTUAL ART: FROM ILLUSION TO IMMERSION (MIT Press) by Oliver Grau
An art historical / media archeological approach to examining the
history of immersion, its effects and the needs for a future media
competency.

DATABASE OF VIRTUAL ART
As pioneer in the field, the collective Database of Virtual Art (DVA)
has been documenting the rapidly evolving digital installation art since
1998. The DVA's research-oriented, complex overview of immersive,
interactive telematic and genetic art is developed in cooperation with
known media artists, researchers and institutions of the field.
Currently it contains thousands of work descriptions and digital
documents, videos, technical data, institutions and bio-bibliographical
information. As one of the richest resources online, with a systematic
thesaurus, the scientific project was from its beginning a university
based endeavor.

(If your museum or science center has exhibits appropriate for the
database, please register for a login to add them.)

best wishes in perusing,

Wendy Jo Coones, M.Ed.
