A picture is worth a thousand words !

From the historic photograph collection of The
Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, this photo shows
people ice skating on a lake in a city park [Lake
Elizabeth in Allegheny Commons West Park on the Lower
North Side of Pittsburgh, then the independent City of
Allegheny], about a century ago.

YOU CANNOT DO THAT TODAY !!! In fact, for several
years, the City of Pittsburgh posted signs around Lake
Elizabeth warning people that skating on the lake
would be done at their own risk. Today, those signs
are gone as no one would even think of skating on Lake
Elizabeth.

Specially designed ice skating rinks are now
necessary, as skating on lakes is all but unheard of
today, except perhaps in the very northern reaches of
the United States and in Canada.

Also, I have seen photographs [not on-line] in
microfilm copies of newspapers from about a century
ago of men walking to work across frozen-over rivers
in Pittsburgh. AGAIN, YOU CANNOT DO THAT TODAY !!!

Such photographs may be "grey" evidence, but they are
also very compelling evidence that Global Warming is a
fact of life today.
