I have one (very obvious) suggestion: 

Go back and look at some of the great silent films, espeically Harold Lloyd, Charlie Chase, Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, and of course, Laural & Hardy.

One warning: get good prints. Look for a series of videos entitled "Hollywood" that were made in 1980 and shown on PBS. They are wonderful and the prints and music are superb. Also, be sure that what you watch has the right music and is shown at 16 FPS not 24.
