Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

Dear Colleagues,

The Hall of Health is applying for a grant to develop an exhibit on
social and genetic factors in health. It will be a modular, interactive
exhibit that will cover the following topics: (1) the role of genetic
variation in making us distinctive and different, (2) how skin color is
related to vitamin D synthesis and preservation of folic acid in the
skin, (3) the contributions of biomedical factors and social factors to
human well being, (4) how sickle cell anemia and other genetic changes
in hemoglobin developed and were preserved in the gene pool, (5) how
racial groups originated, and (6) health disparities among racial and
ethnic groups. The exhibit will be designed to fit into a small space
(about 150 square feet).

If we apply for additional funding to create a duplicate of the exhibit
to travel to other small science centers, do you think your institution
would be interested in hosting it? I don't expect a commitment at this
early stage, but simply want to get an idea of how much interest is out
there.

Thanks,
Lucy Day, Ph.D.
Director, Hall of Health
